1. SPONSORSHIP
We aim to provide Sponsors for every one of the children in the Nanyuki Children’s Home. The sum of just £120 per year, payable by Standing Order, provides most of a child’s needs including food, shelter and education. In return for this sponsorship we try to provide regular updates on the child’s health, general well-being and education. We try to facilitate regular contact by way of letters and photographs between Sponsor and child - most of the children at Nanyuki have never known what it is like to be part of a family. To see the children’s reaction when they receive correspondence from England is a truly moving sight.
Nearly all of the Sponsors have proved to have given wonderful, long-term commitments, and have built up very strong bonds with ‘their’ child - the benefits are on both sides.
As there are new children arriving at the Home all the time we are always looking for new Sponsors - special people who for only a small outlay can change a child’s life forever.
If you feel that you are someone who would like to do something wonderful for a child who has nothing, by sponsoring them, please see the ‘Contact us’ section of this website.
If you would just like to make a one-off donation, that would be most welcome as well - the Home needs all the money that it can get in order to survive and provide a future for the children there.
2. 50/50 CLUB
‘This is an exciting new venture that we have started. We are trying to attract as many people as possible to participate. The idea is simple - by asking for just £1 per month from each person taking part (annually by Standing Order- it reduces our admin a lot) we aim to raise a regular sum of money to supplement the income from sponsorship. This will hopefully provide the children with small extras that we in this country take for granted, such as school uniforms, toothpaste, soap and shoe polish. Each month all participants in the 50/50 Club will be entered into a draw. 50% of each month’s income From the Club will be prize-money and the other 50% will go straight to Nanyuki to improve the quality of life of the children there. So the more members we get, the bigger the prizes and the happier the children!
If you would like to participate please see the ‘Contact us’ section of this website.’
3. FUND-RAISING
As well as our Sponsorship scheme and the new 50/50 Club, we as Trustees raise money for the Nanyuki Children’s Home in various other ways.
We encourage the children at Nanyuki to make ornaments from local materials such as banana fibre, leather and beads. They send them over to us in England, and we sell them, as well as other products, at different venues throughout the year. All proceeds are returned to the Home. We attend Country Fairs (such as Frogham Fair in the New Forest) and Craft Fairs (at Moyles court and the Bournemouth School for Girls, to name but two).
Other ways that we raise funds include concerts, carol singing, car-boot sales and non-uniform days at school. We are always grateful for fund-raising suggestions.
